The island of Vatulele (pronounced 'Vah-too-lay-lay : Fijian translation: 'Ringing Rock') sits south of the Coral Coast and is south of Fiji's largest island, Viti Levu. The island faces directly onto the South Pacific Ocean, but is protected by a magnificent barrier reef, which forms an extensive lagoon in front of Vatulele Island Resort. There are steep bluffs on the west coast and gentle slopes facing to the lagoon on the east.
Apart from the resort, the only other inhabitants live in four villages with a total population of 900. They are involved in subsistence fishing, farming and making tapa cloth (which Vatulele is famous for). They are unspoiled by Western influences, and maintain their natural gentleness, warmth and good humour.
The crystal waters of Vatulele invite every kind of water-based activity, including sailing, paddling, snorkeling, fishing and diving. Even swimming takes on a new dimension here.
